Judge rejects Trump bid to sequester votes by ’noncitizens’ in California
LOS ANGELES (CN) — A federal judge on Wednesday rejected the Trump administration’s bid to sequester as many as 20,000 possible votes by residents the government says are likely noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls. U.S. District Judge David Carter, a Bill Clinton appointee, denied the Justice Department’s request to issue a temporary restraining order that would have required state election officials not to process mail-in ballots by individuals on the government’s list until they have verified that these voters are actually U.S. citizens.
