Republicans appeal RI mail-ballot ruling to U.S. Supreme Court

The Republican Party is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to stop Rhode Island from letting people vote by mail without in-person witness verification during the COVID-pandemic. Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea and the state Board of Elections last month agreed to waive the state’s two-witness or notary requirement for voting by mail after voting-rights groups argued in court they created an unconstitutional barrier to voting while the risk of coronavirus remains.
