WI election commission to seek clearer rules on list maintenance

State election officials plan to ask the Legislature to help set rules for when they should purge the voter rolls, in part in response to a lawsuit against the state. On a 5-1 vote Monday, the Wisconsin Elections Commission directed its staff to start talking to lawmakers about how to address the issue. The commissioners want clearer rules about how to treat voters who may have moved — either with a law that spells out those rules or a law that gives the commission the power to set those rules on its own.
