Evaluating Federal Grant Programs to Improve Voting Accessibility
By Bipartisan Policy Center
Back to Training & ResourcesOver the last two decades, the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) has served as a foundational advancement at the federal level in expanding opportunities for Americans with disabilities to participate fully and independently in elections. Prior to HAVA’s enactment in 2002, many voting locations were physically inaccessible and critical voter information was not available in accessible formats. HAVA responded to the inaccessibility of elections by establishing two key grant programs. Evaluating Federal Grant Programs to Improve Voting Accessibility, produced by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission in collaboration with the Bipartisan Policy Center, looks at how both grant programs have improved voting accessibility for Americans with disabilities and what barriers remain.
