As voters prepare to cast their ballots in the 2026 midterm elections, the Bipartisan Policy Center worked with Morning Consult to survey 3,144 registered voters between September 2 and 4. Building on similar surveys fielded in 2022 and 2024,1 our 2026 survey questioned respondents about:

  • Where they look for election information
  • How confident they are in the vote-counting process
  • Their concerns about the 2026 midterm elections

We found that voters continue to look to local election officials for information about how to register and vote and about how elections are run. However, voters most commonly turn to online search engines for this information. Furthermore, our survey shows that confidence in the vote-counting process remains high, with a narrowing of the partisan gap in confidence that existed in 2022 and 2024. Regarding concerns about the 2026 midterm elections, Democrats and Republicans disagree on what is most concerning. However, both groups worry about the potential for misleading information—especially information generated by artificial intelligence—to disrupt the elections.
